Camden, Camden County, New Jersey, USA flag

Camden is a city and the seat of Camden County in southwestern New Jersey, directly across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. Incorporated in 1828, it is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The city’s early development grew from separate townsites laid out along the river by members of the Cooper family and other landowners. Jacob Cooper named his 1773 townsite for Charles Pratt, Earl of Camden. Ferry connections to Philadelphia helped shape the community’s early growth.
