Woodbine, Cape May County, New Jersey, USA

Woodbine is a borough in central Cape May County within the forested New Jersey Pinelands, inland from the county’s Atlantic resort towns. Its compact center is surrounded by pine woods, wetlands and sandy coastal-plain terrain, with most of the borough lying inside the protected Pinelands region. Woodbine was founded in 1891 as an agricultural colony for Jewish immigrants from Russia and Romania, and factories soon supplemented farming when the sandy soil proved difficult to cultivate. The community incorporated in 1903 and had 2,128 residents in the 2020 census. Historic sites such as the Brotherhood Synagogue recall that heritage, while small businesses, light industry, agriculture, aviation and access to nearby shore and Pinelands recreation shape the borough today.
