Location overview

Cleveland is a city in northeastern Ohio where the Cuyahoga River meets Lake Erie. Surveyed in 1796 by a party led by Moses Cleaveland, it developed as a Great Lakes port. The Ohio & Erie Canal connected the lake with the Ohio River in 1832, while shipping and railroads helped the city’s iron and steel industries grow. University Circle brings together cultural and educational institutions including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Orchestra and Case Western Reserve University. Downtown’s Playhouse Square grew from a cluster of early 20th-century theaters into a performing arts center.
