Location overview

Oklahoma City is Oklahoma’s capital and the seat of Oklahoma County, in the central part of the state. It grew around a railroad stop near the North Canadian River and the land run of April 22, 1889. The city incorporated in 1890 and became the state capital in 1910. Railroad commerce and later oil development helped shape its growth. Interstates 35, 40 and 44 make it a major crossroads.
