Braum’s experienced a store-system outage in late January 2025 affecting its five-state chain. The precise onset was not independently established.
Analyst assessment
The operational interruption is well supported, while cyber causation remains qualified. Local reporting alleged hacking, but a corporate operator told the newspaper it was a companywide computer failure and denied that it was a hack.
The Herald also reported meeting an anonymous person who said he worked for cybersecurity firm CYPFERT and was restoring the Sapulpa store. The person said some stores’ point-of-sale data was under investigation. His identity, role and account were not independently verified.
Operational significance
Stores could not process normal card transactions, cashiers used calculators and some drive-through service closed. A report quoting the company’s public-relations director confirms that a downed server put stores offline across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri.
In Wichita, availability varied by store and checkout counter. Signs directed drive-through customers inside to order and pay cash. These were restrictions on normal service, with some stores remaining open.
Recovery
Some stores returned earlier than others. All three Tyler locations were accepting cards again Feb. 7, while technicians continued work across the chain. That local recovery does not establish a chainwide completion date. Historical status is presumed resolved.
Confidence and uncertainty
A Medusa listing, discovered Feb. 11, supports a cyber lead but does not prove it caused the outage or validate its alleged stolen-data volume. A separate Hunters International listing from July 2024 must not be transferred to this 2025 event.
Analytic gaps
The root cause, precise outage window, actual data impact and complete-restoration date remain unresolved. Claims of a second confirmed ransomware attack, persistent vulnerabilities or payment are not established by the reviewed evidence.
