Location overview
Sapulpa is the seat of Creek County in northeastern Oklahoma, southwest of Tulsa along Interstate 44 and historic Route 66. The city takes its name from James Sapulpa, a Creek trader who established a trading post nearby around 1850. A railroad reached the area in 1886, and the town incorporated in 1898. Railroad activity, petroleum development, brickmaking and glass manufacturing shaped its early growth.
