Beaver is a borough and the county seat of Beaver County in western Pennsylvania, set on a broad terrace above the Ohio River near the mouth of the Beaver River. Its tree-lined streets, historic homes and compact commercial center give it the character of a traditional river town within the Pittsburgh metropolitan region. Fort McIntosh was built at the site in 1778, and Beaver was chosen as the county seat in 1800 before incorporating as a borough two years later. About 4,400 people lived in Beaver at the 2020 census. Health care, professional services, retail, tourism and nearby manufacturing and energy industries support the local economy.
