Belton is a city in eastern Anderson County whose growth began with the arrival of the Greenville and Columbia Railroad in the 1850s. The former railroad depot and the surrounding commercial district preserve that transportation history. Belton had an estimated population of 4,573 in 2024. The city is also known for a long competitive-tennis tradition that has brought statewide tournaments and community courts to the area. Manufacturing, local retail, schools and services support an economy that continues to serve the surrounding rural communities.
