Anderson County is located in northwestern South Carolina along the Georgia border, with the city of Anderson serving as its county seat. The county is part of the state’s Upstate region and includes communities such as Belton, Clemson, Honea Path, Pendleton, Piedmont and Williamston. Lake Hartwell forms much of its western boundary and supports recreation, tourism and waterfront development. Anderson County had an estimated population of 217,183 in 2024, an increase of about 6.4% since 2020. County government provides services including law enforcement, courts, elections, emergency management, road maintenance, planning and public works.
