Williamston is a town in eastern Anderson County that grew around a mineral spring discovered in the 1840s. The spring attracted a nineteenth-century resort and helped the community become known as the Saratoga of the South before railroads and textile mills reshaped the local economy. Williamston had an estimated population of 4,285 in 2024. Mineral Spring Park remains a central civic and recreational landmark. The town now serves surrounding residential and rural areas through schools, small businesses, municipal services and nearby manufacturing employment.
