Liberty is a small city in Pickens County in northwestern South Carolina. It lies near the U.S. Highway 123 corridor between Greenville and Clemson, giving residents access to jobs and services across the Upstate. Liberty had an estimated population of 3,352 in 2024. Chartered in 1876, the city developed around the railroad and a textile mill that shaped its early neighborhoods and civic traditions. Today it combines a residential small-town character with local businesses, available industrial land and proximity to the region’s universities and manufacturing centers.
