Location overview
Sturgeon Bay is a city near the middle of Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula and the seat of Door County. It stands along the bay that gives the city its name. Nineteenth-century sawmills and limestone quarries helped establish its waterfront economy. A ship canal completed in the 1880s connected the bay with Lake Michigan and strengthened its role in regional shipping. Shipbuilding and maritime activity remain central to its historical identity.
