Cedar Crest College is a private liberal arts college in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with a traditional undergraduate program focused primarily on educating women and additional graduate, adult and continuing-education programs open to all students. The institution was founded in 1867 as Allentown Female College, when nine students gathered for classes in the basement of Zion Reformed Church, reflecting its original mission to expand women’s access to higher education. After operating at several locations and under different names, the college adopted the Cedar Crest name and dedicated its present campus at 30th and Walnut streets in 1915. Cedar Crest has since developed into a comprehensive college offering programs in the liberal arts, sciences, health professions, business and other fields while retaining its historic emphasis on women’s leadership and education.
