Allentown is the third-largest city in Pennsylvania and the county seat of Lehigh County, located in the heart of the Lehigh Valley in eastern Pennsylvania. The city lies along the Lehigh River, approximately 60 miles north of Philadelphia and 90 miles west of New York City, making it part of the broader Northeast Corridor. It is bordered by South Whitehall, Whitehall, Salisbury and Hanover townships and serves as the economic and cultural center of the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area. The city’s landscape is defined by the Lehigh River, Jordan Creek and rolling hills characteristic of the Great Valley section of the Appalachian Highlands.
