Coryell County

Coryell County is the county government serving a largely rural area of Central Texas, with its administrative seat in Gatesville. The county was created in 1854 and named for James Coryell, an early settler and Texas Ranger. Its offices administer courts, elections, public records, emergency management, law enforcement, road maintenance and other local services. The county’s jurisdiction also includes Copperas Cove, Fort Cavazos and several smaller communities, giving it a mix of military, suburban and agricultural interests. An elected commissioners court oversees county policy and finances alongside independently elected judicial, law-enforcement and administrative officials.
