Delaware County, Pennsylvania

Delaware County government is the local governing authority for Delaware County, Pennsylvania, serving more than 575,000 residents across 49 municipalities immediately southwest of Philadelphia. Founded in 1789 from part of Chester County, Delaware County is one of Pennsylvania’s oldest and most densely populated counties, encompassing a mix of urban, suburban and waterfront communities along the Delaware River. The county government is administered by a five-member elected County Council, which oversees the county budget, courts, elections, emergency services, public health, human services, corrections, parks, planning and other countywide functions. Headquartered at the Government Center in Media, the county coordinates services that support residents, municipalities and the county court system while working with state, regional and local agencies on public safety, transportation and community development initiatives.
