Gilmer County
Organization overview

Gilmer County is the local government serving the Georgia county of the same name, with administrative offices in Ellijay. Its departments handle functions including public works, planning and zoning, solid waste, parks and recreation, emergency management and elections administration. A three-member Board of Commissioners consists of a chairman and two post commissioners, all elected countywide. The board sets county policy, approves spending and establishes taxation rates, while the full-time chairman oversees day-to-day departmental administration. Separately elected officials retain their own responsibilities, including those of the sheriff, tax commissioner, clerk of court and judicial offices.
