Murray County Government

Murray County Government administers county services for Murray County in northwestern Georgia, with its principal offices in Chatsworth, the county seat. The county was established in 1832 and named for Thomas W. Murray, a former speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives. Murray County uses a sole-commissioner form of government, in which one elected commissioner serves as the county’s executive and legislative authority. Its departments and elected offices provide services including public safety, courts, elections, road maintenance, planning, parks and emergency management. The county served an estimated 41,607 residents in 2025.
