Murray County is located in northwestern Georgia along the Tennessee border, with Chatsworth serving as the county seat and Eton as its other incorporated city. Its western communities occupy the Appalachian Great Valley, while the Cohutta Mountains rise across the eastern part of the county. The county includes portions of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, the Cohutta Wilderness and Fort Mountain State Park, and the Conasauga and Coosawattee river systems shape its landscape. Murray County had an estimated population of 41,607 in 2025, an increase of about 4.1% from the 2020 estimates base. Carpet and floor-covering manufacturing remains economically important alongside agriculture, stone and mineral production, retail and outdoor tourism.
