Chatsworth is a city and the county seat of Murray County in northwestern Georgia, about 14 miles east of Dalton. It occupies the Appalachian Great Valley at the western foot of the Cohutta Mountains, with Fort Mountain rising immediately to the east. The city is the principal commercial center for Murray County and a gateway to Fort Mountain State Park, the Cohutta Wilderness and nearby national-forest lands. Chatsworth had an estimated population of 5,029 in 2025, about 2.9% above the 2020 estimates base. Carpet and floor-covering manufacturing has long shaped the local economy, together with retail, construction, health care and visitor activity tied to the surrounding mountains.
