National Association of Insurance Commissioners

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners is an organization through which U.S. state and territorial insurance regulators coordinate policy and share technical resources. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, it provides research, data, analysis and professional support to insurance departments. Regulator-led committees develop model laws and guidelines that states may consider adopting through their own legal processes. The association also supports financial solvency oversight and other common regulatory work. Its members are the chief insurance regulators of the states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. The NAIC’s work provides shared infrastructure for a system in which each jurisdiction retains its own insurance regulatory authority.
