Livingston HealthCare in Livingston, Montana, says its phone system has been restored after a cybersecurity incident disrupted communications and led the hospital to take some systems offline, but network disruptions continue as restoration work proceeds.
The nonprofit hospital said Feb. 13 that a “potential cybersecurity incident” disrupted its phone systems and network and that it temporarily took certain systems offline “out of an abundance of caution” while it assessed the situation and worked with outside experts.
Livingston HealthCare advised patients with urgent needs to call 911 or go directly to the emergency department. It said UrgentCare would remain open during normal hours.
In an update posted Feb. 16, the hospital said patients can again call Livingston HealthCare “as usual,” but “some network services remain limited.” It said patient care continues and that internal teams and external partners are working to fully restore systems “as quickly and safely as possible.”
The hospital has not publicly described the nature of the incident, whether any data was accessed, or whether any group has demanded payment. As of Feb. 16, no public claim of responsibility tied to Livingston HealthCare was evident in widely available reporting. Livingston HealthCare did not immediately respond to an email seeking additional details.
Livingston HealthCare is a 25-bed critical access hospital that provides emergency care and clinics serving Park County and surrounding communities.
Montana has seen relatively few publicly disclosed, high-profile cyber disruptions that triggered broad service outages in recent months, though the state has had notable healthcare-related incidents. Planned Parenthood of Montana said it detected unusual network activity Aug. 28, 2024, and later confirmed it was targeted in a late-August cybersecurity incident.
