Family Health West in Fruita, Colorado, shut down electronic systems Oct. 28 after detecting a cyberattack, but officials said patient care continued on manual workflows and there was no evidence of data theft or encryption.

The hospital said its IT team isolated systems for forensic review and engaged external cybersecurity experts before bringing services back online. It characterized the event as an isolated incident affecting only its network.

In a statement, IT Senior Director Derek Biddle said protecting patient and staff information is the top priority and the hospital is taking a cautious approach to restoring systems. Officials said updates will be provided as necessary; no restoration timeline was given.

Family Health West is a 25-bed critical access hospital about 13 miles from Grand Junction, serving western Mesa County.

The hospital was among thousands nationwide disrupted by the Change Healthcare outage that froze medical claims and payments for weeks; federal updates now put potential impact at about 190 million individuals.

Family Health West said systems will remain segmented until internal and third-party reviews confirm they are secure and fully operational. The hospital reported no impact to bedside care and said manual procedures are in place.
