Coweta County lies in west-central Georgia, southwest of Atlanta, with Newnan as its county seat and Senoia, Grantville and Palmetto among its other communities. Rolling Piedmont hills, wooded stream valleys and reservoirs shape a landscape that becomes more rural toward the Chattahoochee River in the west. The county was created in 1825 from Muscogee lands ceded to Georgia and was named for the historic Coweta towns of the Muscogee Nation. Coweta County had about 160,200 residents in 2025. Manufacturing, film and television production, logistics, health care, construction, agriculture and Atlanta-area commuting all influence its modern economy.
