Lenoir County lies in eastern North Carolina’s Coastal Plain, roughly midway between Raleigh and the Atlantic port at Morehead City, with Kinston serving as the county seat. Its other incorporated communities are La Grange and Pink Hill, surrounded by smaller rural settlements and farmland. The Neuse River is the county’s principal natural feature and passes through Kinston on its course toward the Pamlico Sound. Lenoir County had an estimated population of 55,837 in 2025, about 1.3% above the 2020 estimates base. Agriculture, food production and manufacturing remain important, while the North Carolina Global TransPark supports a growing concentration of aviation, aerospace, logistics and advanced-manufacturing activity.
