Location overview
Centre County occupies the ridge-and-valley region of central Pennsylvania, with Bellefonte as its county seat. State College and the Pennsylvania State University form an education and employment center south of Bellefonte. Farmland and small towns spread through valleys such as Penns Valley, while forested ridges and streams shape much of the wider county. Ironmaking helped build Bellefonte in the nineteenth century, leaving an industrial history alongside the county’s agricultural one.
