Location overview
Decatur is a city on the Tennessee River in northern Alabama and the seat of Morgan County. River crossings and rail connections helped it develop into a regional transportation and industrial center. The Alabama Legislature incorporated the city in 1826. It merged with neighboring Albany, formerly New Decatur, in 1927. Historic districts, the Old State Bank and its railroad heritage preserve parts of the city’s development.
