Nevada City, Nevada County, California, USA flag

Nevada City is an incorporated city and the seat of Nevada County on the western slope of California’s Sierra Nevada. It occupies a forested basin framed by ridges, northeast of neighboring Grass Valley. The community grew during the California Gold Rush, incorporated as Nevada in 1856 and added the word City to its name in 1864. Its historic commercial center preserves much of the character of the mining era. Historic preservation and tourism have become important parts of the city’s identity alongside its role as a county government center.
