Acworth is a city in northwestern Cobb County, Georgia, about 35 miles northwest of Atlanta, near the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. The city lies along Lake Acworth and the southeastern shore of Lake Allatoona, which support its long-standing identity as “The Lake City,” and its historic downtown developed around the former Western and Atlantic Railroad corridor. Interstate 75 runs just northeast of the city, while U.S. Route 41 and Georgia State Route 92 provide its principal local and regional connections. Acworth is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and functions primarily as a residential, commercial and recreational community, with lakefront parks, beaches and trails forming a prominent part of its geography. The incorporated city is entirely within Cobb County, although surrounding unincorporated areas using Acworth mailing addresses extend into neighboring counties. Acworth had 22,440 residents at the 2020 census and approximately 9.02 square miles of land.
