Greensboro, Greene County, Georgia, USA

Greensboro is the county seat of Greene County, Georgia, located in east-central Georgia approximately halfway between Atlanta and Augusta along the Interstate 20 corridor. The city lies within Georgia’s Piedmont region amid gently rolling hills, mixed forests and lakes, approximately five miles east of Lake Oconee and within the Oconee River watershed. U.S. Route 278 passes through the city center, while Georgia State Routes 15 and 44 connect Greensboro with Athens, Sparta, Eatonton and surrounding communities. Founded around 1780 and designated the county seat in 1787, Greensboro serves as the governmental, commercial and cultural center of Greene County while also supporting the nearby Lake Oconee resort communities. The city encompasses about 6.8 square miles and had a population of 3,648 at the 2020 census.
