Location overview

Macon is a city on the Ocmulgee River in central Georgia and the seat of Bibb County. Founded in 1823, it developed as a river and railroad transportation center. The city lies along the fall line, where the rolling Piedmont gives way to the Coastal Plain. Rocky shoals upstream contrast with the broad floodplains and wooded wetlands below the city. Macon and Bibb County began operating under a consolidated local government in 2014.
