Hagåtña is the capital of Guam, situated on Agana Bay between the coast and the cliffs of Agana Heights. The village contains the executive, legislative and judicial centers of the territorial government as well as the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica. Hagåtña recorded 943 residents in the 2020 Census, making it one of Guam’s least populous villages despite its civic importance. Historic plazas, Spanish colonial sites, government buildings and the Chamorro Village market concentrate much of the island’s public history in a compact area.
