Nobleboro is a town in central Lincoln County on Maine’s midcoast, located just north of Damariscotta and Newcastle along the upper reaches of the Damariscotta River watershed. It is bordered by Jefferson to the north, Waldoboro to the east, Newcastle and Damariscotta to the south, and Alna and Whitefield to the west. U.S. Route 1 passes through the eastern portion of the town, connecting Nobleboro with Wiscasset, Damariscotta and the broader midcoast region. The town’s landscape consists of rolling hills, forests, farms, lakes and wetlands, with Damariscotta Lake forming much of its western boundary and serving as an important recreational and ecological resource. Settled during the eighteenth century, Nobleboro has retained a predominantly rural character while benefiting from its proximity to the commercial and healthcare services centered in neighboring Damariscotta. Agriculture, forestry, small businesses, tourism and commuting to surrounding communities contribute to the local economy. Nobleboro encompasses approximately 43.2 square miles of land and had 1,751 residents at the 2020 census.
