Westerly, South County, Rhode Island, USA
Municipality
Location overview
Westerly is a coastal town in southwestern Rhode Island on the Connecticut border. The Pawcatuck River and Block Island Sound have shaped its settlement and economy. Incorporated in 1669, it developed shipbuilding, textile manufacturing and granite quarrying alongside its maritime activity. Historic commercial streets, former mill villages and seaside communities such as Watch Hill reflect those different periods of growth.
