Fort Worth is the county seat of Tarrant County and anchors the western side of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area in north-central Texas. The city developed near the Trinity River and retains a strong cattle-trail and railroad heritage, most visibly in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Downtown, the Cultural District, Near Southside and rapidly growing northern districts give the city a mix of western identity, major museums and modern urban development. Fort Worth had an estimated population of 1,028,117 in 2025, about 11.9% above the 2020 estimates base. Aerospace and defense, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, health care, finance and technology are important parts of its economy.
