Municipality

Location overview

Duchesne is a small city in northeastern Utah and the county seat of Duchesne County. It sits where the Strawberry and Duchesne rivers meet in the Uinta Basin, near Starvation Reservoir and the routes of U.S. highways 40 and 191. The townsite was surveyed after reservation lands opened to homesteading in 1905, and Duchesne became the county seat when the county was created in 1914. The city counted 1,588 residents in the 2020 census. Agriculture, energy production, local commerce and access to fishing, boating and mountain recreation shape its present-day character.
