Sandy is a city in southeastern Salt Lake County, Utah, located about 13 miles south of downtown Salt Lake City along the eastern side of the Salt Lake Valley. The city lies at the base of the Wasatch Range, with neighborhoods rising eastward toward the mountain foothills and lower elevations extending west toward the Jordan River corridor. Interstate 15, State Street and the TRAX light-rail system connect Sandy with Salt Lake City and the broader Wasatch Front, while nearby Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood canyons provide access to major ski areas and outdoor recreation. Sandy is primarily suburban but also contains a significant commercial and civic center around South Towne, including America First Field and the Mountain America Expo Center. The city covers about 24 square miles and had 96,904 residents in the 2020 census.
