Nevada Department of Education
Organization overview

The Nevada Department of Education is the state agency overseeing public education from preschool through grade 12. It works with Nevada’s 17 school districts and the State Public Charter School Authority on student achievement and educator effectiveness. Its responsibilities include academic standards, assessments, educator licensing and support for school improvement. The State Board of Education and the department’s executive team provide leadership, with agency offices in Carson City and Las Vegas. The department also convenes boards, commissions, councils and workgroups to involve educators and other stakeholders in education policy, and its statutory boards hold public meetings with opportunities for comment.
