A cyberattack late Thursday, Nov. 13, forced Living Room Theaters to halt operations at its cinemas in Portland, Oregon, and Indianapolis, with no reopening estimate, the company said Saturday.

The company said the “cruel and random” attack made most computers unusable, preventing box office transactions and refunds. The CEO said the company will follow up to facilitate refunds for tickets it cannot honor.

The chain said it contacted the FBI’s Portland field office and hired cybersecurity experts to assess and repair systems. Officials did not specify the attack type.

The closures affect the Portland venue at 341 SW 10th Ave. and the Indianapolis location in the Bottleworks District at 745 E. 9th St., Suite 810.

CEO Steve Herring apologized in the post and said refunds will be facilitated once systems are restored.

Living Room Theaters operates two boutique cinemas in Portland and Indianapolis. The Bottleworks site opened in 2021.

As of Sunday, Nov. 16, the theaters remained closed. The company has not posted a reopening timeline.

Living Room Theaters is an independently owned boutique cinema brand with food-and-drink service.
