Cyberattack Shuts Down Key Court Services in Lorain County, Ohio

A significant cybersecurity incident has shut down key judicial departments in Lorain County, Ohio, with closures affecting government operations in its county seat, Elyria. As of Friday, May 30, 2025, the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas—including the General, Domestic Relations, and Juvenile Divisions—along with the Adult Probation Department, were closed. The county, home to more than 321,000 people, implemented the shutdown as a precaution while cybersecurity teams investigate the breach and work to restore affected systems.

Lorain County officials are working alongside law enforcement and third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the extent of the intrusion and to fortify digital defenses. Affected departments remain offline, but essential services such as 911, the Sheriff’s Office, and various health, social, and administrative services continue to operate. The county Auditor’s Office reported related technical disruptions earlier in the week, impacting online mapping tools. Authorities have not confirmed whether personal data was compromised. Residents are encouraged to monitor the county’s official channels for updates on service availability and recovery progress.
