Ransomware Attack Disrupts Operations at Data I/O in Washington

Data I/O Corporation, an electronics manufacturer based in Redmond, Washington, disclosed in a Form 8-K filing that a ransomware incident discovered on August 16 disrupted manufacturing, shipping, receiving, internal and external communications, and other support systems. The company isolated affected platforms, took certain systems offline as a containment measure, and engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate and support recovery. The full scope of the breach and any potential data exposure remain under review, and no timeline for full restoration has been provided.

The attack on Data I/O is the latest in a string of 2025 incidents targeting U.S. industrial and manufacturing firms. Similar disruptions have struck steelmaker Nucor in Charlotte, North Carolina; medical device company Masimo in Irvine, California; and Sensata Technologies in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Hitachi Vantara in Santa Clara, California; Crystal D in St. Paul, Minnesota; and National Presto Industries in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, have also reported operational impacts this year.

Industry analysts, including Dragos, have noted that manufacturing was the hardest-hit sector for ransomware in the second quarter, accounting for about 65% of global industrial victims—underscoring escalating supply-chain risk as production and logistics systems grow more interconnected.
