Leon County lies in Florida’s Panhandle along the Georgia border, with Tallahassee serving as both county seat and state capital. Rolling hills, pine forests, lakes and plantation lands distinguish it from the flatter landscapes found across much of the state. The county was created in 1824 and named for Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León.
