Location overview

Leon County, Florida, USA flag

Leon County lies in Florida’s Panhandle along the Georgia border, with Tallahassee serving as both county seat and state capital. Rolling hills, pine forests, lakes and plantation lands distinguish it from the flatter landscapes found across much of the state. The county was created in 1824 and named for Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León. Universities, historic neighborhoods and nearby rural communities give the area a blend of urban, academic and North Florida character. Education, health care, technology, tourism and regional commerce contribute to its economy.
