Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
Municipality
Location overview

Tallahassee is the capital of Florida and the seat of Leon County, in the state’s inland Panhandle near the Georgia border. Unlike much of Florida, the city occupies rolling red-clay hills shaded by live oaks and pines. It was selected as the territorial capital in 1824 because it lay between the earlier centers of St. Augustine and Pensacola. Florida State University, Florida A&M University and the state Capitol give Tallahassee a strong civic and academic identity. Education, health care, technology, professional services and regional commerce support the economy.
