Pinellas County occupies a narrow peninsula on Florida’s west-central coast, with the Gulf of Mexico to the west, Tampa Bay to the east and Clearwater as the county seat. Its 24 municipalities include St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Pinellas Park, Dunedin and Tarpon Springs, while barrier-island communities line the Gulf shore. The county is Florida’s most densely populated and combines an extensively urbanized landscape with beaches, bays, mangroves and coastal preserves. Pinellas County had an estimated population of 948,563 in 2025, about 1.1% below the 2020 estimates base. Tourism, health care, financial services, manufacturing, defense, aviation, marine and life sciences, and information technology all contribute to its economy.
