Summit County, Ohio, USA

Summit County is a county in northeastern Ohio centered on the city of Akron and situated between Cleveland and Canton. The county occupies a transition zone between the Appalachian Plateau and the glaciated plains of northern Ohio, giving it a landscape of rolling hills, river valleys and numerous lakes and reservoirs. The Cuyahoga River originates in the county and flows north toward Lake Erie, while the historic Ohio & Erie Canal and the Towpath Trail pass through much of the county. In addition to Akron, Summit County includes the cities of Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Barberton, Green, Hudson, Twinsburg and several villages and townships. The county covers approximately 412 square miles of land and had 540,428 residents at the 2020 census, making it Ohio’s fourth-most populous county. Established in 1840 and named for its location at the highest point of the Ohio & Erie Canal, Summit County remains a regional center for healthcare, higher education, advanced manufacturing and corporate headquarters.
