Location overview
Utah County extends from the shores of Utah Lake eastward into the Wasatch Range, with Provo as its county seat and largest city. Mount Timpanogos, the Provo River and fertile valley floors give the county a landscape of steep mountain fronts, wetlands, farmland and fast-growing communities. The area is part of the traditional homeland of Ute peoples, and Euro-American settlement began around Fort Utah in 1849. Utah County had about 759,900 residents in 2025. Brigham Young University, technology companies, manufacturing, health care, construction and outdoor recreation shape an economy closely tied to the broader Wasatch Front.
