Location overview
Prince George County lies southeast of Richmond in Virginia’s Tri-Cities region, between the James and Appomattox rivers. Much of its land remains rural, while neighborhoods and industrial areas cluster near Hopewell and Petersburg. Interstates 95 and 295 and U.S. Route 460 link the county to the Richmond area and Hampton Roads. The county dates to the early 1700s and includes part of Fort Lee, an Army installation formerly called Fort Gregg-Adams. Its riverfront and transportation corridors help define this part of south-central Virginia.
