Caltrans freeway sign cyber incident

An unauthorized message replaced traffic information on a Caltrans-operated digital sign along Interstate 405 near Westwood on Sept. 8, 2026. Caltrans said it learned of the message Sept. 15, directed its contractor to restore normal operations and began reviewing the message and access history; the access method, actor and restoration time remain unconfirmed.
