Millcreek Township, Pennsylvania, Blocks Cyberattack With No Disruption

Millcreek Township, Pennsylvania, blocked an attempted cyberattack on Sunday, July 13, preventing any disruption to services or compromise of data, township officials said Monday. According to a release from the township, unknown actors tried to infiltrate the municipal network and install malicious software, but existing security protocols and early detection tools stopped the intrusion before any damage occurred.

As a precaution, township IT staff, working with technology partner VNET, disconnected the network from the internet and conducted a system audit. Officials said all services remained operational during the temporary lockdown and full functionality was restored later the same day. No data breach occurred. The township has since implemented additional cybersecurity measures and urged other local governments to prioritize readiness against digital threats.
