Pennsylvania AG’s Office Knocked Offline by ‘Cyber Incident’

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General said a “cyber incident” took its network offline on August 11, 2025, disrupting the agency’s website, email accounts and landline phone systems. The office, which is based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, said the cause remains under investigation and that IT staff are working around the clock with law-enforcement partners to restore services. As of Monday afternoon, the office said services remained offline; no attribution or data exposure has been reported.

State and local governments are frequent targets of ransomware and denial-of-service campaigns, though officials have not tied this outage to a specific attack. Earlier this year, the Virginia Attorney General’s Office reported a “sophisticated” cyberattack that forced systems offline, highlighting the risk to attorneys general and other justice agencies. The Pennsylvania AG’s office said staff are coordinating with supervisors to minimize service interruptions and will provide public updates as they work to restore operations.
